OWOF JOINT MEETING

Please mark your calendars for next Sunday afternoon (2/16/25) and join OWOF board members as we gather at the Chelsea library to learn more about OWOF’s 2025 focus as well as what other action groups are doing now. The event is designed to help coordinate efforts and connect volunteers. See post below for details. 

The OWOF board helps set the direction for our program year. In 2025 we are determined to continue to offer and amplify education and outreach opportunities with a special focus on Housing and Immigrant Rights

A chance to interact with our regional elected officials. The County is responsible for a significant budget in our area. And it's in Chelsea!

NEW COMMUNITY DISCUSSION: Let's try to put the current national scene into historical and international context-especially now. Read the (3) current articles available on our website and join us in person or on zoom. https://owofchelsea.org/resources/community-discussion/ Questions we'll cover: What is autocracy? Is it happening in the US? How have Putin in Russia and Orban in Hungary transformed their systems? Do we have any safeguards or weaknesses in our society re autocracy. A good vigil for immigrant rights. City of Chelses passed the ordinance that police and staff cannot ask about immigration status for routine stops or interactions. Sheriff Alycia Dyer declared that the Washtenaw County Sheriffs Dept will not help or house ICE detainees.

ORDINANCE REGARDING IMMIGRATION STATUS! Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the Chelsea City Council meeting will consider a second reading of the City of Chelsea Solicitation of Immigration Status Ordinance. Below is an excerpt from the ordinance language. The whole document is posted in the council package online. (See below pg 78). Please consider attending the meeting and speaking at public comment to support the ordinance.
