MEET THE FINALISTS FOR POLICE CHIEF! The meet-and-greet for the two finalists for our new Police Chief will be Tuesday, Sept 20 at 6pm in the Council Chambers. The finalists are: Kevin Kazyak, Deputy Police Chief, Waterford Township Police Department and Michael Lance, Chief of Police, Jonesville Police Department. Council will NOT be attending the meet-and-greet and are depending on us to meet the candidates and provide feedback! Hosted by the Youth Arts Alliance, the Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice (ICPJ), Washtenaw County My Brother's Keeper, the Amplify Project, and Title Track, the project's mission is to bring attention to the carceral system's harmful effects on youth. Working in partnership with the trial court, the organizations have pooled their resources to create an art-based exhibition in the courthouse at 101 E. Huron St. in Ann Arbor. POLICE CHIEF CANDIDATE INTERVIEWS!! MONDAY, 9/12 , starting at 3pm and continue till 8pm After much community input and the commitment to revamp the Chelsea Police Department, the City is at the important juncture of selecting a new police chief. Even though we now have a Citizen's Strategic Planning Group, the tone of the department will largely fall from the chief. Interviews are open to the public! In person or online. Summer, sundaes, sunshine, social justice! Sure they go together! This Thursday, Aug 18, 6pm, Pierce Park. Join us for a pleasant summer evening. We'll have ice-cream sundaes with all the toppings to enjoy. This is a chance to visit with like-minded friends and make new ones. We'll have a short meeting at 7pm to share the results of our community survey and identify groups interested in the different Action Items that came out of the survey. Any questions? Just curious? Have an issue you feel strongly about? Come and join us!!

TONIGHT, 10pm ET local public television stations nationwide will air the Academy Award nominated documentary Who Killed Vincent Chin? Watch it or record it. June 19th, was both Juneteenth and the 40th anniversary of the racially motivated killing of Vincent Chin, a 27-year old Chinese American man in Detroit, Michigan. How the tragedy of Vincent Chin's killing was handled by the police and the courts catalyzed a movement that built a multiracial, multigenerational, multicultural, interfaith coalition bridging class and ethnicity. Vincent Chin's murder is an important story for all Americans, not just Asian Americans. Curriculum for this documentary has been created by Helen Zia and a 64-page legacy guide STAND UP AGAINST HATE is available at VincentChin.org in English and other languages. Copies can be obtained or a PDF can be downloaded. Also recordings of the 40th year events can be found on the site.
