IMPORTANT COMMUNITY DISCUSSION!

For this read, we are taking a broader view of currents events and looking to see the parallels in history and other countries.  This will give us some framework to form our actions.  In March, we will discuss three recent articles.  They are available at no charge on the OWOF website under Resources. LINK IS HERE   In April, we’ll discuss what we can do and new articles will be posted.  Questions we’ll include in March: What is autocracy?  Is it happening in the US? How have Putin in Russia and Orban in Hungary transformed their systems?  And do we have any safeguards or weaknesses in our society?

Join us in person or on zoom.  The  zoom link will be posted on the website closer to the date.  Questions?  Email owofchelsea@gmail.com

IMMIGRATION RIGHTS – Standby for upcoming programs!
The OWOF Board has decided to focus on helping our undocumented neighbors and friends navigate the current administration’s policies.  Teams of volunteers have already been trained and visited area restaurants to let them know immigration rules and the rights of their affected employees.  OWOF will be offering a general
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS training for employers, businesses and citizens later in March.A panel discussion of Immigration specialists and activists will be offered in April. In the meantime, if you want to volunteer for training and further actions, please email us.  owofchelsea@gmail.com

Informative and timely session offered by our friends at Chelsea First United Methodist Church on Park Street.   Sex and gender are far more complicated than simple male and female.

Dr. Shumer will be discussing gender identity, and the differences between normal gender identity exploration and gender dysphoria. He will discuss the various mental health and medical options and approaches used with children and adolescents with differences in gender identity. He will also help sort through some of the current questions and controversies related to these topics.

THE OWOF Board has also decided to focus on housing – especially increasing the supply of affordable housing, not more luxury housing.  This workshop is a major source of information and tools  – and is close to home.   Anyone interested in carpooling, please email owofchelsea@gmail.com
Register for the conference here.

To follow up on our excellent Immigration 101 discussion, this is an event to understand what is happening beyond our borders that causes so many people to leave their homes, families and cultures to make the perilous immigrant journey. Close to the people most affected by oppression and poverty, Padre Melo is a soulful and analyst of the reality that the majority of Hondurans live. He is director of Radio Progreso/ERIC, a radio station center for reflection, research and communication at the service of the people throughout Honduras and Central America.
